Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, now has a dedicated desktop app available for both Mac and Windows users, which can be downloaded free of charge from the company’s website.
Recently, Anthropic launched a “computer use” feature in public beta for the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model. This new capability enables the AI to interact with a computer by viewing the screen, moving the cursor, clicking on elements, and typing in text, but it isn’t yet accessible within the desktop app.
In addition, Anthropic is expanding voice interaction capabilities on Claude’s mobile apps for both Android and iOS, allowing users to ask questions by speaking rather than typing.
The desktop app for Claude offers a similar experience to its web version, letting users pose questions, revisit past conversations, and access starred chats. However, it provides the added convenience of launching Claude directly from the desktop, eliminating the need to go through a browser to initiate a chat.
Anthropic joins a lineup of other AI chatbots that already have desktop applications, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Perplexity’s AI search engine. Microsoft’s Copilot is also integrated into Windows 11. Recently, ChatGPT’s desktop app introduced an advanced voice mode, further enhancing its interactivity.
