Talent Retention Woes for Openai This Week
The launch of OpenAI’s new GPT-4o “omni” model in May has significantly boosted ChatGPT’s app revenue. Following a sharp increase after the model’s introduction, the mobile version of OpenAI’s chatbot experienced its highest revenue month yet in July, earning $28 million in net revenue from the App Store and Google Play, according to data from app intelligence firm Appfigures.
Net revenue refers to the amount OpenAI retains after paying Apple and Google’s in-app purchase fees. The firm also revealed that 83% of the app’s revenue came from Apple’s App Store, a figure that has grown by 20% since June.
Before deducting app store fees, ChatGPT’s app generated $28.9 million in May, $34 million in June, and $39.9 million in July.
With the introduction of GPT-4o, ChatGPT gained the capability to process text, speech, and video, along with offering faster response times. The chatbot also became interruptible, making interactions with the AI feel more human-like and natural.
This new technology drove ChatGPT app revenue up by 40% in May, according to Appfigures. Although the growth rate has slightly decreased since then, revenue continues to rise at a steady pace.
Appfigures estimates that the app’s July revenue resulted in 2 million new paying subscribers, marking another record for the mobile app. With the introduction of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, which offers near real-time, realistic interactions, Appfigures anticipates continued growth in the coming months.
