Microsoft’s Phone Link Replaces Samsung’s Dex App for Windows

Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7 update will phase out support for the DeX app on Windows. A note on Samsung’s UK website, highlighted by Android Authority, reveals that the DeX PC app will no longer be supported in the One UI 7 version.

Instead, Samsung is encouraging users to utilize the Link to Windows feature, which offers similar functionality through Microsoft’s Phone Link app on Windows.

The DeX app for Windows, which should not be confused with the broader DeX platform that transforms your phone into a PC, allowed users to mirror their phone’s screen to a PC and seamlessly transfer files between the two devices.

This feature closely resembled the Phone Link app by Microsoft, with which Samsung has had a strong partnership in recent years. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Samsung is shifting its focus to support Microsoft’s native Android linking tool on Windows.

This change will take effect with One UI 7, which is expected to be available in beta form later this month. Samsung initially previewed One UI 7 at its developer conference last month, stating that a developer beta would be released before the year’s end. While we are still awaiting the full details on the new features of One UI 7, leaks earlier this year suggested that the beta release had been delayed from its original planned schedule.

One UI 7’s new features were also recently showcased in a video on Samsung’s Spanish website, revealing some of the key design changes. These include smoother animations, an overhauled Quick Panel, and a pill-shaped live activities feature, which resembles Apple’s Dynamic Island.

Additionally, One UI 7 is expected to incorporate various new AI-powered features, though details on these innovations have yet to be fully disclosed.
