Claude AI Can Match Your Unique Writing Style, According to Anthropic

Anthropic has introduced a new feature to its Claude AI assistant, allowing users to have greater control over how the chatbot handles different writing tasks. This update, called custom styles, is now accessible to all Claude AI users. It enables them to train the chatbot to align with their unique communication style or to choose from preset options that can quickly modify the tone and level of detail in its responses.

The main objective of this enhancement is to make Claude’s replies more personalized and suitable for specific contexts. Whether it’s creating professional emails, drafting detailed technical documents, or engaging in casual conversation, the chatbot can now adapt its responses to feel more natural and appropriate.

Currently, three preset styles are available:

  • Formal, which produces “clear and polished” text.
  • Concise, designed for short, direct responses.
  • Explanatory, ideal for educational replies that require more detailed explanations.

For users who need something more specific, Claude can also generate custom styles tailored to match other unique writing preferences. To achieve this, users need to upload sample content that demonstrates their preferred way of communicating. The chatbot is then trained to mimic that particular style based on the provided instructions.

Scott White, Claude’s product leader, elaborated on the feature in the announcement. “You might want in-depth explanations when you’re learning something new, or quick, straight-to-the-point answers when you’re in a hurry,” he explained. “You might prefer Claude to be more formal in some contexts, or use a friendly, conversational tone in others. The great thing is, you can now set these preferences once and have every interaction feel just right for you.”

This update is likely to make it less noticeable when someone is using Claude to generate various types of text. However, this capability is not exclusive to Anthropic’s AI assistant. Competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini also offer similar features that allow users to customize responses to match their personal writing style. For instance, Gemini includes tools to fine-tune the tone and detail of Gmail drafts. Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools also provides comparable presets for style adjustments.

While Anthropic’s new feature adds convenience and flexibility to Claude AI, it reflects a broader trend in the AI industry. As more AI assistants adopt tools that enable customization, users have increasing opportunities to shape these technologies to better fit their individual needs.
